(the "Company," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information when you use the Away mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Services"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in an open and transparent manner.
By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information that you provide directly to us, information that is automatically collected when you use the Services, and in some cases, information from third-party sources.
1.1 Information You Provide
We collect the following information that you voluntarily provide when using our Services:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and password.
- Profile Information: You may choose to add additional profile information such as a profile picture, display name, and other personalization details.
- Status Messages: The away status messages you create to display on your lock screen and share with others.
- Contact Information: With your permission, we may access your device contacts, including saved phone numbers and names, to help you connect with people you know on Away and to invite new people to join Away more easily.
- Photos and Videos: When you choose to share a photo or video through the Services, you provide us with the photo or video and associated metadata, including the file type and size, and the time the photo or video was taken or created.
- Messages and Reactions: When you choose to send messages, comments, or reactions to friends on Away, you provide us with the message or reaction sent. We may review the contents of these messages if a user reports, or we otherwise detect, a potential trust and safety violation or potentially illegal or illicit activity or violations of our Terms of Service, as permitted by applicable laws.
- Other User Content: Any other content you create, upload, or share through the Services.
- Communications: When you contact us for support or provide feedback, we collect the contents of your messages and any information you choose to provide.
- Payment Information: If you purchase a subscription, payment information is processed by third-party payment processors (such as Apple's App Store). We do not directly collect or store your full payment card details.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Services, we automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with the Services:
- Device Information: We collect information about your mobile device, including device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, mobile network information, and device settings.
- Usage Information: We collect information about how you use the Services, including features accessed, actions taken, time and frequency of use, and session duration.
- Log Data: Our servers automatically record information including IP address, browser type, pages visited, time stamps, and referring URLs.
- Location Information: With your permission, we may collect your device's precise or approximate location information through GPS, Bluetooth, or WiFi signals.

- Authentication Services: If you log in using a third-party service (such as Sign in with Apple), we receive basic profile information as permitted by that service.

- Public Sources: We may collect information from publicly available sources to prevent fraud and improve our Services.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
2.1 To Provide and Improve the Services
- Create and maintain your account
- Display your away status messages on your lock screen
- Enable you to share your status, photos, videos, and other content with other users
- Synchronize your data across devices
- Create special features such as photo memories, collages, or other personalized experiences using content you have uploaded
- Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features and user experience
- Develop new features and functionality
- Detect and fix bugs and technical issues
2.2 For Safety, Security, and Legal Compliance
- Protect against fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
- Monitor and review user-generated content to detect and prevent trust and safety violations, illegal or illicit activity, or violations of our Terms of Service

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 With Your Consent
We share information with other users and third parties when you explicitly choose to do so, such as when you share your away status, photos, videos, or other content with friends or connect your account to third-party services.
Important: Once you've shared content (such as photos, videos, or messages) with other users, that content is delivered to their devices and it may not be possible to delete it from their devices, even if you delete it from your own. Please be careful about what content you choose to share.
3.2 With Service Providers
We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including:
- Cloud hosting and storage providers
- Analytics and performance monitoring services
- Customer support and communication tools
- Payment processors
- Email and notification services
These service providers are contractually obligated to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us and are required to maintain appropriate security measures.
3.3 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required by law or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to:

If you are located in the EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place when transferring your personal data outside these regions, including:

5. Data Retention

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your information within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or security purposes.

6.1 Access and Portability
You have the right to access your personal information and request a copy in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
6.2 Correction and Update
You can update your account information at any time through the Settings section of the Away app. You may also contact us to request corrections to inaccurate information.
6.3 Deletion
You have the right to request deletion of your personal information. To delete your account:
- Delete the Away app from your device
- Email support@gomeo.xyz to request permanent account deletion
Please note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, such as fraud prevention.
6.4 Object and Restrict Processing
You have the right to object to or request restriction of certain processing of your information, particularly for direct marketing purposes or when processing is based on legitimate interests.
6.5 Withdraw Consent
Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw consent at any time. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.
6.6 Marketing Communications
You can opt out of promotional emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email or adjusting your notification settings in the app. You may continue to receive transactional or service-related communications.
6.7 Do Not Track
Some browsers support a "Do Not Track" signal. Our Services do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals.
6.8 California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:
- Right to know what personal information is collected, used, and shared
- Right to request deletion of personal information
- Right to opt out of the sale of personal information (note: we do not sell personal information)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

7. Children's Privacy
The Services are not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 without parental consent.
If you are under 16 years of age, you may only use the Services with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16 without proper parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.

The Services may contain links to third-party websites, applications, or services that are not operated by us. This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party services.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services before providing them with your information.
If you log in to Away using a third-party authentication service, that service may collect information about your use of Away according to their own privacy policy.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy
- Notify you via email to the address associated with your account
- Provide notice through the Services (such as an in-app notification)
Changes will be effective five (5) calendar days after we provide notice, except for new users, for whom changes are effective immediately.
Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using the Services and delete your account.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
